Today was a drawn out day, but well worth it. :) We had our feeding evaluation at Our Childrens House with Baylor in Dallas. We are recommended for two intensive programs. One is an outpatient 4day/5week program, and the 2nd one is a total inpatient, 5 week program. This was the most informative evaluation, yet. We have learned that Gavins developmental delays are not due to being malnourished at 3 months of age (5th percentile). The Nutritionist explained that he is now in the 50th percentile on weight (YAY!, accomplishment!) and that his nutrition would not have caused him to be developmentally delayed at this time. We also learned, Gavins neurological deficits will not be short term. The intensive therapy programs will lay out a stable foundation for us to work with. Yes, he will grow out of Laryngomalacia, but not the neurological deficits that he was born with. The reason I am stressing this point is because my baby looks normal and I often get told Well, he looks healthy. At the same time, I wouldnt want someone to point out how unhealthy my child looks either. Lets just say, it is a sensitive subject and the reason he looks healthy is due to the dedication of his hard working parents. Sometimes, we just need to hear those words that we are doing just that. Good Job Mom and Dad! Your love shows! Today, I heard those words from a complete stranger, the Nutritionist at our evaluation. It took every eye twitching muscle to keep those tears from flowing. Love your babies. Kiss and hug them at every opportune moment because it DOES pay off! We will see what the Pediatric Ophthalmologist says in the morning.
