Today was awesome with a capital A! I got to hear Wilton Barnhardt and Elizabeth Spencer speak at the North Carolina Literary Festival. I spied Mr. Barnhardt while waiting for the session to begin and clutched my chest in awe. It was all I could do to refrain from throwing myself at his feet and declaring that I was not worthy to be in his presence. When I met him and asked for a photo, he was every bit as lovely and gracious as I imagined he would be. Ms. Spencer is no shrinking violet herself...she had her first work published in 1948 and counted William Faulkner and Walt Whitman among her acquaintances. I will definitely be reading her work. All this plus lunch with the boy and a visit to my favorite second hand book store makes for a happy, happy Kathy!
