Today was like nothing weve ever experienced. Ever. We arrived at the church at 8:30 and met an early crew of friends (THANK YOU!) and set up what we could. The truck had gotten delayed and arrived at the same time the 10:00 AM volunteers arrived. Disaster? No. Men, women, and kids as young as 5 helped unload the truck and set up the event. Once we got into a groove with the packaging, we really moved. By noon, the time we had to leave the church, wed packaged 6,481 meals. One father, Chris Mott, didnt think we should leave the other meals unpackaged, but we couldnt remain in the space because another group had reserved it. And so, he and Cub Scout Pack 10s leader, Craig, somehow got permission for us to move to St. Josephs in West Orange...without notice and for free. We broke down, drove to West Orange, set up again and packaged the remainder of meals with a smaller group and a lot of motivation, love, and enthusiasm. I am in awe. Cormac, though exhausted at the end, said it was awesome and that he wanted to do it again. We will have to find ways to thank our many family members, friends, colleagues, neighbors, and complete strangers who came in to help. We are filled with gratitude and just feel enormously empowered by the outpouring of love. Team Cormac, all of them, starting with Cormac and including so, so many hearts, we did it. Thank you.
