Today was one of those days where I wished there was two of me & since there isn’t I just hoped that our planning would come together and things would run smoothly – and it did. The day started at 6am with getting up to make sure Megan ate something before fasting time at 7am, she had beaten me up and was already scoffing into a sushi roll (that’s correct, Sushi at 6am & followed by left over tandoori chicken). At 7am a quick phone call to my mum to ensure all is still ok for her to come down and take Megan in to the hospital for an 11 O’clock admission –check. 8.15am – hubby & I head off in separate cars so I can get my oldest to his graduation and hubby can drop the youngest off to kindy then meet me at the graduation. I stay at graduation long enough to see my boy receive his certificates (which means I saw nearly the whole ceremony as Jordans class was the very last to go through), then I take off to make sure I get to the hospital before Megan goes into theatre – all good, made it there with about an hour to spare. The tooth exposure required a pretty big dig into the palate after the surgeon discovered it was wedged further in than they thought, the insertion of the gastrostomy tube went well & overall the two procedures went smoothly. The day is not over just yet – Megan is still nil by mouth until at least 10.30 tonight at which point she will attempt to get an enzyme down and her first tube feed will be trialed, 6am until 10.30pm is certainly a long time between meals! We are very grateful for my mums help which enabled me to see my boy graduate and also ensure Megans surgery could go ahead. Also a big thank you to our dear friend who brought a comfy pillow in for Megan….we had one small failing in our planning when we forgot our pillows, those of you who’ve spent a bit of time in these places will know just how grateful we were for the delivery of this haha. And a big thank you to all that have checked in on how Megan’s being doing & to her friend for coming in to be with her today, this all goes a long way towards keeping the spirits up.
