Today was sort of a strange day. Not a bad day. Just a strange day. Some dude got on the bus this morning and went bonkers because theyve stopped accepting cash - you need a travel card or a credit card that can be tapped - they dont sell the travel cards on the bus. So, no cards, no go. Anyway it just went into effect recently, and this guy didnt get the memo. So, he flipped out. He started yelling and trying to break into the drivers little plexiglass box, and he was calling him every curse you can think of, and he eventually said, You dumb Polish Jew! to the driver, and the driver told him that was hate speech and he was calling the police... and most people on the bus just sat there pretending nothing was happening... and suddenly the bus driver closed the bus doors, locking the nutty guy in it with us, and he called the cops. So, while we waiting for the cops, the nutty guy kept yelling about Polish people and Jews, and the driver kept yelling about antisemitism... It might be a good time to mention that both the nutter and the driver were black. So, it was probably more like... schizophrenia, rather than antisemitism. Which made the whole scene very funny to me. Anyway, eventually the police came and I made it to work - like five minutes late. Then, on my lunch break, the passage to where I buy lunch was closed with tape and there were cops all over and there was blood all over the place. I dont know what happened but there were lotsa cops and it was high drama. But, whatever, because it was sunny! So, I got lunch someplace else, and I sat in the park, and then, I told the story about the morning bus drama to one of my coworkers, and he told me hed never known any Jews growing up, which was nice, and quite funny, because he trusted me to openly share that with me. I told him I didnt know anyone who played cricket when I was growing up, so it was ok. Then, on my way home, I got off the train at my stop, and there were tonnes of cops all over the place, and four huge, beautiful, golden retriever drug/bomb sniffing dogs, sniffing everyone who exited the station - some sort of spot check that they do a lot here - and the dogs were adorable. I didnt steal one - too many cops around! Anyway, NOT a boring day.
