Today we celebrate the Feast of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross. - TopicsExpress

Today we celebrate the Feast of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross. Does the Cross mean anything to us anymore? We see the cross in so many places that it might easily become lost among the many things our eyes scan each day. We can easily miss the meaning of the cross as we easily let our society sanitize suffering and death. The cross we hang in our homes or wear around our necks can easily become jewelry to enhance our clothing ensemble. In giving us the Holy Cross, Christ desires us to see in this instrument death which has become the instrument of life through the blood of Christ the symbol of his promise to: love us, have mercy on us, and to be our constant companion on lifes journey. The Cross is the powerful reminder that God has saved us and that the pain and suffering of life will never be the end of the story for us. The Cross is Gods invitation to each of us to embrace His love through faith and find hope that only life with God can bring. As we reflect on todays feast may we exalt the Holy Cross by lives of joyful faith and confident hope. The meaning of the Holy Cross is found in Gods love for us through Christ and expressed in lives of faithful and faith-filled Christians. May each representation of the Cross which surrounds us each day remind us of this. We adore you O Christ, and we bless you because by your Holy Cross you have redeemed the world.
