Today, we commemorate the first anniversary of the disaster - TopicsExpress

Today, we commemorate the first anniversary of the disaster brought by Super Typhoon Yolanda which caused more than 5,000 deaths in the Central Philippines. In solidarity with our countrymen from the Visayas, we take this opportunity to pay our respects to the victims of Yolanda. Last year, our people has been tested by one of the most powerful typhoons that have hit our country. Many have lost their lives, their properties and their ways of life. Today, while there are more that needs to be done, the process of Reconstruction and Rehabilitation of the affected provinces that we have been witness of inspires us to do more. We also salute the men and women of our Armed Forces, the Philippine National Police, our other emergency responders, the Philippine Red Cross, those who are from the international community, and most importantly to the private sector for their invaluable contribution to the restoration of our peoples lives. Indeed, while we remember the victims of the onslaught brought by Yolanda, we are continuously challenged even until today to remain vigilant, to prepare, and to fast-track the process of Rehabilitation. Each day many of our countrymen who are victims of the Typhoon remain in a despicable situation. Our Government must restore them into dignity as soon as possible. I, as citizen of the Philippines, urge the Government to prioritize this immediately. May the Almighty God grant all stakeholders of the Yolanda Rehabilitation strength of mind and determination in finishing the task at hand. And may we, at the end of the day, learn from the experiences we have gone through last year. GOD BLESS THE PHILIPPINES! GOD BLESS THE VICTIMS OF TYPHOON YOLANDA! MABUHAY ANG PILIPINAS!
