Today we had Neurodevelopmental Assessment. This was to look at - TopicsExpress

Today we had Neurodevelopmental Assessment. This was to look at Connor as a whole, not just his body or his brain but the whole package and to see how it is all working together. It wasnt too bad, they have assessed him at between 9 - 12 months developmentally. What is slightly unfair is that they dont look at him as an individual (?!?) but they assess him on average children milestone charts, not on achon charts. Reason being is the system is very regimented and they have certain boxes they need to tick. Personally I find this slightly bizarre but thats how it is. So being assessed at 9 - 12 months on a standard milestone chart is not too bad. What was against him is the gross motor, no sitting or walking yet. He cannot hold more than one thing in a hand (she hastened to add that this is largely due to his small chubby achon hand, its just not possible as yet), he cannot put shapes into corresponding holes yet (mom & dad must work on this) and he isnt feeding himself with a spoon yet. But overall she was happy with him considering the major setbacks hes had and we go again in 8 months for another assessment.
