Today we kick off Pulmonary Hypertension Awareness Month. Pulmonary hypertension (PH) is a rare disease affecting the arteries of the lungs, which can strike people of all backgrounds, ages and genders. This fatal, rapidly progressive disease is difficult to diagnose because its symptoms mimic those of many other diseases. Without treatment, the average life expectancy of with PH is less than three years. Ironically, many patients spend 2-3 years of their life seeking a correct diagnosis. Main symptoms are shortness of breath, fatigue, swelling of the feed and ankles and fainting. We want to spread Awareness far and wide as most people will never have heard of PH until they are diagnosed. Early diagnosis and early treatment significantly improve a patients prognosis.
