Today we left Rapid City, SD, headed east for a while along I-90, - TopicsExpress

Today we left Rapid City, SD, headed east for a while along I-90, passed the Wall Drug circus (which unfortunately I have to admit we visited last year) and the South Dakota Badlands, then turned south and headed into the Nebraska Sandhills. I was surprised by the amount of evergreen trees in this region. Additionally, there are numerous marshes hidden away in these hills, which the migrating ducks know only too well. We passed a paddling or two on our way down US-83. We turned southeast on NE-2 and headed for Grand Island, NE for the evening. The Sandhills gradually surrendered to the flat corn fields that I always envisioned Nebraska to be. In Grand Island we met the Platte River which seemed tame compared to the Colorado, the Yellowstone and the Missouri. It didn’t feel like the West anymore and that was a little sad.
