Today we visited a facility which usually caters to older patients, so I was a little surprised when we walked by the nurses station and there in a wheelchair was a woman in her 40s. She looked at Blueberry and reached out to her. Blueberry was looking in the opposite direction and so did not see the woman, but in a few seconds she heard her when the woman almost cood, oh my a dog, and a beautiful dog too. She asked a lot of questions about Blueberry as she pet her and scratched her back in the perfect spot to get her leg going. We went around the open area and visited with several other people, but this woman never stopped looking at Blueberry. When Blueberry did her army crawl across the floor, all the patients laughed loudly, but this woman seemed to enjoy her antics just a little more than the others. I miss my dog a lot, she said at one point. I cant take care of them any more so family members have them, but I miss them. Every day I miss them. Except right now. I dont miss them now, she said as she touched Blueberry ever so gently and smiled at the brindled dog now sitting by her wheelchair. A few moments later, I thought I heard singing, but it was not loud, but then I realized that this woman was singing to Blueberry: How much is that doggie in the window The one with the waggley tail How much is that doggie in the window I do hope that doggies for sale I must take a trip to California And leave my poor sweetheart alone If he has a dog he wont be lonesome And the doggie will have a good home It was a perfect moment and one in which I almost felt like an intruder. She was singing to Blueberry. And Blueberry and her waggley tail appreciated every word and every touch. Peace all.
