Today, we went on a walking tour of Florence, and then visited the Galleria dellAccademia. On the walking tour we saw: Bronze map of the city with explanation from our guide, the patron saint of bankers, view from Ponte Vecchio, statue on Ponte Vecchio and detail ( medieval bridge with shops in continuous use since 1345), our group on the bridge, loggia (outdoor sculpture garden) with all original statues from medieval times, fake David on original spot (exact replica) in front of Palazzo Vecchio, Tower of Palazzo Vecchio (prison at the top), campanile (bell tower - our hotel is just around the corner), views of the duomo ( too massive to capture in photos), Gates of Paradise at the Baptistry, more details of the duomo ( the dome is a free standing brick structure- no ribs to hold it - since 1418).
