Today we’d like to show our appreciation to Hope volunteer - TopicsExpress

Today we’d like to show our appreciation to Hope volunteer Debbie Ventura. Debbie contacted Hope in the fall of 2012 because she felt a calling to share her passion and knowledge of cooking with some of the people that Hope serves. This led to the launch of the Kids Can Cook cooking class for middle school youth the following spring. Every Thursday afternoon for ten weeks, the youth explored nutrition, food and kitchen safety, menu planning, and shopping on a budget. Follow-up sessions of Kids Can Cook began last fall and this spring. One goal of Kids Can Cook is to teach kids how to cook and eat healthy food on a budget. “Miss Debbie” and her team of volunteers engage the youth with hands-on food preparation and learning activities in Hope’s kitchen and dining room. Each class ends with the participants sharing a meal together, and parents are invited to the last class of the session. Kids Can Cook youth are also given a cookbook of class recipes and items for personal cooking kits so they can keep practicing their cooking and healthy-eating skills at home. And did we mention how much fun the kids have? Check out these five pictures! Miss Debbie isn’t in this group of pics, but thank you Debbie and all of your helpers for sharing your cooking talents and love of the Lord with these young people.
