Todays 3-2-1 Hit: THE MORNING AFTER by Maureen McGovern. The very first and by far the biggest hit by Youngstown, Ohio native McGovern. The song was weaved into the plot of the 1972 film THE POSEIDON ADVENTURE but was not recorded for commercial release until after the film was a hit and it won the Grammy for Best Song. McGovern was working as a secretary and had sent a demo to 20th Century Records. She was tapped by the labels manager to record the track (he allegedly paid for the session himself). It was cut in Cleveland, Ohio and in August 1973, eight months after the movie was released, Morning After hit #1 for two weeks and eventually sold a million copies.
