Todays Daily Bread YET I LOOKED ON THEM WITH PITY Ezekiel 20:1-26 Monday, November 25 Key Verse: 20:17 First, for the sake of his name (1-12). This is the third time the elders seek counsel with Ezekiel (8:1; 14:1). Ezekiel reviewed history for them. God chose Israel and promised to deliver them from Egypt and bring them to a land flowing with milk and honey. He told them to get rid of the idols of Egypt. They did not--but for the sake of his name, as a witness to the nations, he brought them out of Egypt to Mt. Sinai. There he gave them his law--the Bible--to teach them how to live. He gave them the Sabbath as a sign so that they might know God who made them holy. Whoever obeys Gods law will live. Second, yet I looked on them with pity (13-26). Although God was angry at the first generation of Israelites for rebelling against him, he did not destroy them completely. He made a new covenant with their children in the wilderness (18-20). But the children also rebelled against him. Still for the sake of his name, he did not destroy them utterly (22). Although this passage seems to end without hope, God has a redemptive purpose behind all that he does. We must have hope for hopeless people. Prayer: Lord, help me to see myself and others with your eyes. I believe that there is always hope because of your unfailing love for sinners. One Word: Have Gods pity for sinners
