Todays Devotion Topic: In Sharing, Choose God (Part 1)! Text: Gen 13: 10- 11 10 Lot looked around and saw that the whole plain of the Jordan toward Zoar was well watered, like the garden of the Lord, like the land of Egypt. (This was before the Lord destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah.)11 So Lot chose for himself the whole plain of the Jordan and set out toward the east. The two men parted company. Amen Until this time, Abram had travelled everywhere with his nephew, Lot. The latter had been close to his uncle Abram and grand father Terah, since his own father (Haran) died in Ur (Gen 11: 27- 29). One day, Terah took his son Abram, his grandson Lot ,son of Haran, and his daughter-in-law Sarai, the wife of his son Abram, and together they set out from Ur of the Chaldeans to go to Canaan. But when the came to Haran, they settled there. Torah lived 205 years, and he died in Haran (Gen 11: 31- 32), making Lot the responsibility of Abram. The Lord blessed both men such that the land could not support them while they stayed together. Even their herdsmen started quarreling. So Abram said to Lot,“Let’s not have any quarreling between you and me, or between your herders and mine, for we are close relatives. 9 Is not the whole land before you? Let’s part company. If you go to the left, I’ll go to the right; if you go to the right, I’ll go to the left.”(Gen 13: 8-9). At this, Lot looked up and saw that the whole plain of the Jordan was well watered, like the garden of the Lord. Young and full of greed, he choose the WHOLE plain of the Jordan and set out toward the east. He took ALL the best fields and Abram was left with nothing. But Lot couldnt be bothered. He never discussed with his more experienced uncle what his decision was and why. He simply chose by sight. But you know, what Lot couldnt see was that the people living in those plains were wicked and sining greatly against the Lord (Gen 13:13b). A situation that was going to attract the judgement of the Lord, and cause him to lose everything; including his WIFE. Many of us view all situations pertaining to choice as a competition and quickly bring our wits on board to make the best choice for our total benefit. We barely consult God for guidance. We dont seek counsel from godly men too. Solomon warns that, there is a way that appears to be right, but in the end it leads to death(Prov. 14: 12). Meditate on this word and begin to pray.
