Todays Fallacy: Sit up, crunches and planks burn fat off your midsection (The BIGGEST myth and waste of time in the whole fitness profession!!) You cannot burn fat from one area or any single area of your body!! Situps to burn fat off your midsection is as silly as chewing gum to burn fat off your face.. Fat comes out of every fat cell on your body when it is needed as an energy source for you to function. Taking fat out of one area of the body is like aiming to take a bucket of water out of the deep end of the pool. Get fit and fat comes out of all your fat cells faster, even the ones on your feet and your face. To get strong adominals, exercise them in the way they function- to hold your body upright!! Any exercise that puts you on the floor, your adominals cannot work as effectively as in the upright position. Your adominals work in conjunction with your lower back muscles. Workout on the floor, a ball or a machine and your back muscles are being supported, not functional and not safe at all. The big exercises that require you to lift heavy weight in the upright position (squats, lunges, chin ups and dips) are the best for making your whole body strong- including your abdominals. AND your metabolism will be faster so will burn fat faster off your whole body, including your midsection/abs/tummy!!!!
