Todays Hurricane Preparedness Week topic is storm surge. Did you know this is the deadliest hazard of a hurricane? One of the greatest recorded storm surges was generated by 2005s Hurricane Katrina, which produced a maximum storm surge of more than 25 ft in the communities of Waveland, Bay St. Louis, Diamondhead and Pass Christian. An especially dangerous time for storm surge is when it combines with astronomical high tide, which can result in an even dangerous storm surge.
