Todays Tribune Democrat headline: Sewer aid On Way. City manager Kristen Denne is going to use the $130,000 of Community Development Block Grant money to help homeowners with the cost involved to comply with sewage mandate. According to her estimates, that will be enough money to help 45 homeowners, and she encourages people to apply for help. While its nice that the money is going to help some people, what about the other 7,955 Johnstown homeowners? Is it first come first serve? Im sure city hall will be bombarded today with people applying for help. Who makes the decision as to who is going to receive it? The 80 year old widow on social security, a single parent who just lost their job, or a family struggling to survive on minimum wage jobs? Tough decisions ahead. Too bad the million dollars of 2013 funds werent given to the people to help with this.
