Todays been a pretty rough day. Ive been sitting on this thought for the past four weeks and Im fairly ashamed to say that I decided to leave FEMA Corps (even after being inducted) for a myriad of reasons. Its been a challenging month and a half and I decided that the program isnt for me. Im very grateful for the opportunity afforded to me and appreciate all of the support from family, friends, and Corps members. Im leaving the program with growth, a better understanding of myself, and possibly most important of all, phenomenal new friends and family. Sadly today was my day to say good bye to these wonderful individuals and it was incredibly painful. I love all of you and hope the best for all of you and with you good luck in your adventures. Ill be spending my first night in an airport because my flight was cancelled as a result of the shenanigans in Chicago, but Ill be back in the republic of Texas tomorrow! Im dealing with a huge range of emotions right now--shame, sadness, anger, excitement, as one would expect, but Im grateful to know that I have friends all over the country now and a new appreciation for the simple things I didnt have since coming to Iowa. I love you all and cant wait to see what life has in store for me now! Cheers yall.
