Todays classic, 11/8/14: James P. Johnson and Fats Waller, If I - TopicsExpress

Todays classic, 11/8/14: James P. Johnson and Fats Waller, If I Could Be With You (3/27). Piano roll played by James P. Johnson and Fats Waller. This is another video where you will hear the tune twice, first in mandolin mode, then in piano mode. If you are like me and prefer the latter, you can skip ahead to 3:09. Im not sure who is playing treble and who is playing bass, but I think the treble sounds more like Johnson than Waller. That means Im probably wrong. This is two of the great stride pianists at their best, Waller and his mentor Johnson. Not only that, they are also playing one of the best songs from the 1920s, written by Johnson. If this isnt my favorite piano roll that Ive ever heard, its pretty darn close. Great playing on this. youtube/watch?v=SaVEtDeK0Qo
