Todays decision regarding New York police officer Daniel Pantaleo - TopicsExpress

Todays decision regarding New York police officer Daniel Pantaleo being cleared of all charges in the killing of Eric Garner isnt just another heartbreaking reminder that post-racialism is a myth foisted by those unwilling to confront and deal with racial inequality in America, its the grizzly realization of what used to be a dystopian (science fiction-esque)vision of the future wherein an otherwise normal society sat around their televisions and repeatedly watched a man being murdered. CNN, Fox and MSNBC have looped the video of the incident, showing it multiple times, hourly. And of curse, social media has allowed the video t go viral. Neither Eric Garner nor Michael Brown were saints, and neither so much as holds a candle to the standard bearers for civil rights in days gone by. That said, each should at least serve as a reminder of how far weve slipped when we justify homicide (no matter the rationale, both died at the hands of someone else) through placing people on the lower end of a superimposed caste system, when we use the behaviors of a few as fuel to disrespect the many and when we are okay (entertained, even) with watching it play out over and over again. My two cents.
