Then when I try to defend wrestling I dont know really what to say Im like its like 60% real. Can you please tell me how real it is. Also do you have advice for what to say when my friends are constantly like wrestlings fake? Thank you. ANSWER I don’t right now, as those people tend to be condescending assholes, and I try not to interact with condescending assholes. I did USED to have to deal with them though. Ironically, I used to catch A LOT of shit when I worked at Marvel Comics for my wrestling fandom. Coworkers, bosses, writers and artists - they ALL gave me shit about it. And now? A ton of those guys are fans and they’ve even hired CM Punk to write a comic story. Being ahead of the curve is my blessing and my curse. Anyway, here are two things you can point out to people who insist on reminding you that “wrestling is fake.” 1. FIXED, NOT FAKE. First off, “fake” is bullshit. Two wrestlers might know when one guy is taking a bump, but the bump itself is REAL. There’s no way to fake someone falling down on their back repeatedly. 2. ITS REALER THAN MAD MEN. This is the most important thing to me. Why is it that people are totally OK with watching Jon Hamm pretend to be a 1960s advertising man, but they can’t suspend their disbelief for a wrestling match? Game of Thrones is an even more pointed example. That show has DRAGONS in it, and you somehow can’t wrap your brain around the internal logic of professional wrestling? BULLSHIT.
