Todays final kiss-off e-mail to the Director at my former - TopicsExpress

Todays final kiss-off e-mail to the Director at my former workplace. The name of one very guilty party has been redacted: The word that best sums up my experience is disappointment. The assertion that there is not enough work to support your .6 appointment is ludicrously false, to the point of being an insult to my intelligence. The amount of work to be done hasnt changed. The type of work hasnt changed. In fact, the fall schedule was shaping up to be one of the busiest of the last few years. The only thing that changed was the identity of the person in the office next door to you. (By the way, allowing Ms. [Sociopath] to take over the IT department was literally insane. A BA in psychology, and no technical skill or expertise whatsoever? Im as qualified to be a professor of entomology as she is to be an IT director.) When the reorganization was explained, I heard three goals: 1. Empower employees 2. Raise morale 3. Improve efficiency By any objective standard the exact opposite has occurred on all three points. And now that examples have been made of several people who voiced the mildest of questions, you can be sure that you will never hear the truth about anything from rank and file employees ever again. Youll hear what they think you want to hear, lest they risk being in your assistant directors crosshairs. All of this would be easy to dismiss as the rantings of a disgruntled ex-employee--except for one thing: I wasnt disgruntled. I loved my job. Even though it didnt pay worth a damn. Even after I lost my house. I loved working with the grad students and instructors, and the challenge of keeping rickety 20+ -year-old equipment in operation long past its expiration date. I even had detailed plans for ways to repurpose a lot of the equipment to do other useful things on campus, in the event (the university) finally came through with refurbishment money. Now none of it matters--my dedication, loyalty, pride in working for the institution, none of it. Disappointing indeed.
