Todays headline in the Register Mail - Council debates Library Debt Really? Thats what the R-M got from the work session last night? Actually, the library is asking the city to invest up to $5,000,000 in the construction of a new library. This investment will help the library remain in the running for $16,000,000 in state grant money. This sound investment by the city will be paid back. Its up to City Council to see the big picture and support this endeavour. There is a chance that we wont get the grant. However, if the city commits to investing in this project, I am confident the State will award the grant. The benefits far outway the negatives in this case. A new library will be more efficient to maintain. It will provide a much needed community center. It will be well located on West Main Street. It will be a library for our children and their children. It will serve Galesburg for decades to come. It will also be a great benefit to economic development. Now is the time to build.
