Todays one of our fondest dreams was realized: we got to be the Code Adam at Walmart! Six employees finally found Cora Dove in the infants section, huddled silently between a Graco stroller box and a Cosco stroller box. They were trying to coax her out when I ran over and crawled in. Cora Dove! Cmere, sweetie! I said. She peeked out from behind the Graco box. All I could see were her dolly hands, one messy braid and her eyes, which were huge. Mommy? She whispered. She started making her way towards me through the boxes and then stopped. Somebody had left a wad of blue gum on the metal shelf and she squatted and started quietly and painstakingly picking it off. Because all I was, was her mother, reunited with her at long last after a very worrying eight minutes. But this was GUM. It needed to be CLEANED. The nice Walmart employees who looked so hard for her, and triumphantly found her, and had stuck around so they could enjoy the heartwarming mother-child reunion, realized it werent happening and drifted away. Finally, as she was picking at the ABC gum, she absentmindedly got close enough for me to gently snag her and sweep her into my arms and hold her close to my heart and breathe in deep the sweet scent of her GOOD HEAVENS *cough cough*. Because, of course, she had crept away to poop. Walmart says my Mother Of The Week award will be in the mail. Heres hoping its a case of ramen! (You can see shes holding her favorite Walmart treat: her own personal crown on broccoli.)
