Todays political culture seems too much like the a high school - TopicsExpress

Todays political culture seems too much like the a high school sports event: Both sides paint signs with ridiculous slogans like Smash the Dems! or Rip the Reps ... sadly these propaganda efforts are all too effective at convincing (otherwise well-intending) people to thoughtlessly takes sides and replace thoughtful discernment with blind loyalty. The result is a frustrating and dysfunctional political/social system that resembles a bad production of West Side Story pitting the Sharks and The Jets in a mindless/futile struggle to see which gang can get the most people to stand on their side of gym during the dance. The causalities? Thoughtful debate, individual intellectual responsibility, respect for differences/diversity, economic productivity and too often friendships, families. In the end this paradigm threatens the promises/hopes/aspirations of democracy itself. Im going skip to the dance! I am not going to join (or validate) the any pep team in demonizing the other team. I am not going to drink from the punch-bowl of mindless hater-aid that ANY self-serving interest provides. I am going to re-think my preconceived biases because I recognize that I dont really understand most issues well enough to be a zealot. In short, I am going to try to be a better individual.... While it may seem camp and corny (and very out my wheelhouse), it seems appropriate to add the words of John Lennon: I hope someday youll join us, and the world can be as one. PS: If you tend to vote any party ticket, ONLY watch either MSNB or FOX news, If you think Democrats are better than Republicans (OR vice versa) this post is intended for you!
