Monroe had the honor of driving Presidents Grant and Hayes along the dangerous S-curves of the Wanona trail into Yosemite Valley. Badger Pass in Yosemite National Park was named in his honor. 2. 1963 - Vanessa L. Williams born Actress-singer and the first black Miss America Vanessa L. Williams is born in Millwood, New York. 3. 1947 - Wilson Pickett born R&B singer Wilson Pickett is born in Prattville, Alabama. 4. 1939 - Charley Pride born Country singer Charley Pride is born in Sledge, Mississippi. 5. 1938 - Country singer Charlie Pride born Country and western singer Charlie Pride was born in Sledge, Mississippi. 6. 1933 - Unita Blackwell Unita Blackwell was born this day in Lula, Mississippi.
