Today’s announcement that the economy added 214,000 jobs in October, dropping the U.S. unemployment rate to 5.8 percent, is great news. The October jobs report marks the 56th consecutive month of private sector job growth under President Obama’s leadership, with a total of 10.6 million new jobs created. Our economy continues to improve, and now the new Republican-controlled Congress needs to join Democrats’ efforts to strengthen the middle class by reducing income inequality, addressing the gender pay gap, passing paid family leave, and tackling the student debt crisis.
