Todd Leras: THE POWER OF MONEY I picked up the paper this morning to see that Senator Leland Yee has been arrested on public corruption charges (the link is posted below). The motive for that corruption is prominently mentioned in the article - he had $70,000 in campaign debt from his failed run for San Francisco mayor. That same paper also mentions how the other two candidates in the DAs race surpassed me in fundraising by a ten to one margin, suggesting that sound policy proposals are far less significant than raising money. Fortunately I have a strong enough sense of humor to get a good laugh from a newspaper condemning pay to play corruption while it does a superficial story about the importance of cash on hand in an upcoming election. Fortunately for our system voters are smart enough in the vast majority of elections, Senators Yee and Calderon being obvious exceptions, to see that stacks of cash do not ensure sound policy and integrity.
