Tom Baxter Michael Corleone A.v. Ramanathan Donnie Carbone and others I hope, lol? Richard Sherman makes an excellent analogy to the massive NHL brawl that went on for minutes to begin a game between the Canucks and Flames last week, and asks why no one is ripping the thuggery displayed there? Not to mention dropping all the gloves upon the dropping of the puck, then devolving into a barbaric series of fights all over the ice, after which the coach of the Canucks literally tried to fight through players and security to try and chase the Flames and their coach into their locker room! What kind of role model behavior is that, and does that set a good example for kids to follow? No it doesnt, and quite frankly it sets a worse example for kids to follow IMHO, and SportsCenter showed it over and over knowing kids all over the world were watching. Not blaming ESPN for showing it, just pointing out the lack of consistency there is in calling out supposed acts of thuggery. And finally, I couldnt agree more with the frustration he voiced about being automatically labeled a thug because of being from Compton or Watts (happened unfairly to a lot of guys I coached at Lee H.S. simply because where they were from, or what their family members may have been involved in), because as he points out there are plenty of real thugs and gangsters who live that life and do engage in criminal activity. However a guy who graduated with good grades from Stanford w/ a degree in Communications (who never gets arrested and hasnt been in trouble with the law), most certainly doesnt fall under that label or stereotype! Nothing wrong with not liking how he handled that interview on Sunday, or thinking it was bad sportsmanship and/or in bad taste (hence why he apologized for distracting from it being all about the team after that team win), but to say Sherman is an example of thuggery or gangster culture running rampant is IMHO laughable and ridiculous! #RichardSherman
