(DAVID LIPNOWSKI / WINNIPEG FREE PRESS) The 39-year-old succumbed to upper-body injuries after he was rushed to hospital in critical condition about 9:30 p.m. Friday night. Police did not release his name. According to neighbours, an altercation between three people -- two men and a woman -- started in a main-floor suite of the three-storey building. There was a man who was screaming for help. He screamed as loud as he could 20 times -- Help! Help me! Someone please help me! It was scary It wasnt any louder than usual in that suite Friday night -- a neighbour who didnt want to be identified said the apartment frequently has people visiting with cases of beer -- but around 9 p.m. things took a horrific turn. There was a man who was screaming for help. He screamed as loud as he could 20 times -- Help! Help me! Someone please help me! It was scary, said another resident, who requested anonymity. There were no other screams. It was just one guy. I could tell it wasnt just a fist fight in the hallway by the way he was yelling, he added. There were no (gun) shots or anything. Ill never be able to forget the way he was screaming. A resident who identified himself only as Wayne, said a man was on the ground, unconscious, eyes open and covered in blood, just outside the front door. The front entrance of the Capri was still dotted with blood as a police forensics team investigated the crime scene Saturday morning. There was a bloody handprint on the window next to the front door, and to the west side of the building no more than nine metres from the entrance, two large blood stains were noticeable on the brick exterior. I walked right by the man, looked down at him, and there was blood head to toe, Wayne said. He wasnt breathing. He looked to be gone to me. Wayne said a woman he described as hysterical was standing off to the side, holding a pair of scissors. She was yelling something to the effect of he attacked me. She was ranting, Wayne said. Police soon arrived and handcuffed her, he said. He said the incident appeared to have started outside a main-floor suite. Blood was visible on a door, down the stairs and out the main entry, he said. Thats as violent an incident as Ive ever seen, he added. Police picked up a knife near the front of the building. The two other people involved, a 42-year-old man and a 32-year-old woman, were taken to hospital in stable condition, police said Saturday. A police spokesman would not confirm Saturday if there were arrests. The homicide unit continues to investigate.
