Tom McMillan, Pittsburgh Penguins vice president of communications and co-founder of the Pittsburgh Center for Sports Media and Marketing at Point Park University, will tell the story of Flight 93, the fourth plane that crashed in Somerset County on Sept. 11, 2001, tomorrow at 6 p.m. in JVH Auditorium. He has written a book, “Flight 93: The Story, The Aftermath and the Legacy of American Courage on 9/11,” prompted by his time volunteering at the memorial site and his interest in preserving history. He’ll explain the heroic crew and passenger insurgency and the process that led to the National Park system agreeing to create the memorial. Tom will touch upon the huge task authorities faced to dig for clues and piece together the hijacking and the heroic efforts that stopped the plane from crashing into either the White House or Capitol in D.C. The annual vigil in Village Park (weather permitting) will follow. The program and vigil is sponsored by the Honors Program, Honors Student Organization and Campus Activities Board.
