Tomorrow (13th of May) is Wesak Day, a holy day celebrated by Buddhists around the world. In Malaysia, Wesak Day is considered one of the national public holidays. A candle procession is the highlight of the celebration, and at the same time, offerings of prayers, joss sticks, and incense, giving food to the needy and donations are also made. Much to the delight of all devout Buddhists (and those non-celebrating as well). A mass Wesak float procession will be organized at major Buddhist temples within the country. More than tens of thousands of devotees and spectators line the streets to join the procession. Roads will be closed to coordinate the big celebration. The candle-lit procession not only lights up the streets at night, it also marks Malaysia as a truly multiracial and multicultural country.
