Tomorrow! PSYCHOLOGY CLUB AND THE SOCIAL & BEHAVIORAL SCIENCES DEPARTMENT present Al & Jane Nakatani Thursday, May 8, 2014 | 9:30 - 10:45 a.m. Building K (Performing Arts), Room 125 ADMISSION IS FREE and OPEN TO THE PUBLIC Al & Jane present their book “Honor Thy Children,” an educational work that reveals how the process of human and self–denigration can diminish and destroy children and young people. It is a story that teaches us to truly honor and love ALL children. A video is available at vimeo/33421616. Synopsis: Al and Jane Nakatani were living the American Dream. They had successful careers, a comfortable home, and 3 bright children. Like millions of other parents, Al and Jane were blind to the multiple layers of discrimination, racism, and homophobia that plagued their sons’ search for identity and self-acceptance. Al and Jane’s ignorance of their sons’ struggles cost them dearly. They lost all three sons: two to AIDS, one to murder. It has been their mission to understand how they and other entities contributed to the premature deaths of all 3 sons. In their presentation, Al and Jane make a strong and compelling case of the systemic nature of human and self-denigration. They shed light on this life diminishing and life destroying process and offer ideas as to how better manage and prevent its destructive processes, particularly as it relates to children and young people.
