Tomorrow (Sunday, Aug. 10), Presiding Bishop Elizabeth Eaton will be interviewed on the Al Mayadeen TV network, based in Beirut, Lebanon. The live, 48-minute interview will begin at 1:00 p.m. Central Daylight Time and can be viewed live at: livestation/en/almayadeen. Al Mayadeen claims a viewership of about 20 million in the Middle East and beyond. We believe a primary focus of the interview will be on the relationship between Palestinians and the State of Israel, and on the current conflict in the Gaza Strip. However, it is likely that the interview also will at least touch on other Middle East regional issues, including the situations in Syria and in Iraq with ISIL. Bishop Eaton plans to emphasize in this interview the ELCA’s humanitarian and other work in the region with various key partners in ministry and our overall stance toward, and actions in, God’s work of making peace. Our main (but not only) companion in the region is the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Jordan and the Holy Land. Bishop Younan of the ELCJHL has encouraged Bishop Eaton’s participation in this interview.
