Tomorrow evening, Friday, February 28 at 7:30pm: James River Brass, VCU Brass Students and I are giving a concert of Brass Music, Organ Music, and Brass & Organ Music. The concert is free and will last just a little over an hour. Donations will be accepted for a foundation that develops opportunities for music students in Colombia, including some cultural exchange with music students in this country (all the students playing on this concert will travel to Cartagena in May). Also, the foundation buys and retains ownership of musical instruments, which will be played by VCU students in Colombia, then left behind for students who cannot afford instruments of their own. Supporting this program is reason enough to attend tomorrow nights concert. But, you will also hear some great music, old and new: Purcell, Dupres Poem Heroique, and a quirky but stirring arrangement of parts of the Saint-Saens Organ Symphony. The John-Paul Buzard, Opus 42 proves itself again as a remarkable instrument by accompanying the brass with subtlety, color and power. Yall come!
