Tomorrow is a red letter day in Tamilnadu. While Tamilnadu is being only known for protests against the conviction of our former Chief Minister Here is the next in the series of regional level conferences being organized by the Joint Movement for the denial of caste. The focus of this conference to be held in Trichirapalli tomorrow is to condemn the various forms of violence women undergo in such marriages, against male chauvinism and condemning the so called honor killings that are an aftermath for young people choosing to refuse their case identity and marrying one another and also demanding a special law to deal with such killings. I am proud of this Tamilnadu that is resilient and willing to carry the struggle forward against violence against women - why is the NGO sector missing in this list of participants ? It is only such political stands of men and women voicing their concerns against violence against women cutting across caste lines that will result in us denying the institution of caste which is the basis of discrimination and untouchability. The organizers make Tamilnadu proud. Make India proud. This is the only true manner to clean India of its greatest eveils -the caste system and the consequent violence against women.
