Tomorrow is the first Sunday of Advent. I invite you to journey - TopicsExpress

Tomorrow is the first Sunday of Advent. I invite you to journey with us through the next month as we prepare to receive Jesus into our world. Advent is sometimes misrepresented as a simple “Countdown to Christmas.” What advent actually represents is the nation of Israel waiting for their promised Deliverer or Messiah after they were carried off into exile by surrounding nations. Their failure to live fully into God’s plan for them took them far from their beloved homeland. From that distant place, their hearts cried out for God and for home. Christmas will bring us much joy but throughout Advent, we too should feel that sense of longing for God’s arrival and for our true home. This year, I have chosen “The Exile” as our advent theme. The typical Advent weeks of hope, peace, joy, and love will be presented instead as Distant, Barren, Coming, and Home. My desire is that we remove ourselves from the hype of the season and instead spend this month together preparing for Jesus to arrive in our lives in a new way. Be prepared for the first couple of weeks to leave you with a sense of longing but I assure you that if you give yourself fully to this process, you will not be disappointed. Let’s journey “home” together. Pastor Marlene Webster. Sundays at 4:44 pm at 117 W. Exchange, Owosso.
