Tonight I tried to challenge 7 members of the Sterling City - TopicsExpress

Tonight I tried to challenge 7 members of the Sterling City Council. It was scarey, but fun. I wanted it to be on record that City Charter allows them to revisit an ordinance. When I asked the City Attorney if that was possible, he remained silent. The Mayor brought out a decent point in that if I am trying for a citizens initiative, why am I trying to have the council make the decision again. I brought up the point that 2 members of the council were opposed to a recreational ban, we did not know the feelings of the other two. Councilman Bob McCarty clearly said he is in favor of medical marijuana. Councilman Flores and Lawrence stated their positions on the recreational bans were not in favor of banning. This could mean we have three potential council members voting in favor. I really think Applehans will vote in favor making it 4 in favor 3 against. I brought up a good point in that they never had to place bans in the first place. Councilman Lawson clearly said it could have gone to the ballot without banning it. I think they brought good points and I brought good points. Let it be known they have the power to revisit an ordinance but choose not to. I only asked for a chance to prove a case that the ordinance is invalid. I was never going to give up on the petition. If they would have turned it over themselves I would have been OK with it. This is a competition and we should be going for the win, not just the vote. We should be preaching the vote, but understand this is a game and the object is to win. How we do that?, anyway we can! Some may say I contradict myself. I say the council contradicts themselves too. To try and argue with 7 members of City Government, when they are staring you in the face, when you represent a controversial issue is very nerve racking. I am content on my performance, but I know I could have done better. Now we need to go on an all out blitz for signatures. I did get the you got nuts kid commendation from the Mayor and Councilman McCarty. Thank you to those who came!
