Tonight I went to the A&E (British ER) for some bad back pain. They never asked for my insurance or any form of identification even though Im not from London. Then they treated me with kindness and diagnosed my pain as overuse and sciatica. The doctor then gave me a paracetamol/codeine combination and sent me on my way. I asked if I had to pay, and she shook her head and smiled. Im not trying to start a debate, but my experience with universal healthcare was pretty awesome. Plus it helped to have my amazing friends with me to cause a commotion in the waiting room
