Tonight, as my coworker and I were closing down the pizza department, the phone rang. I picked up and gave my usual customer-service spiel (the good old thank you for calling [insert place], this is [insert name], how may I help you? thing), to which a male voice, probably belonging to a guy in his late forties or fifties, started talking. The following conversation ensued. Oh wow, you sell pizza? He asked, sounding genuinely impressed. Yes, sir. This is Wegmans Pizza Department. Wow-ee, thats neat. [At this point he lowers the phone and yells to someone in the background.] Honey, get this: they sell pizza! ...Yeah! Its like a pizza shop! [Back to me now.] Wow. That is great. That is just great. What is this, like some sort of store? Um, yes sir. This is Wegmans. Wegmans Pizza Department. What would you like to order today? Oh yes, of course. I nearly forgot! Id like a Wii U. I paused, trying to process what hed just asked. Excuse me? Im sorry, I missed that. What would you like? A Wii U. Or, well, I guess the PRICE of a Wii U first. You want a what? The price of a Wii U, and then the Wii U. You know, if its not ridiculous. How much does it cost? Um... Sir, this is Wegmans. Yup! I paused again. Sir, I dont think you understand. You called Wegmans. Wegmans Pizza. Yes. Sir, we sell pizza. Yes, I heard! Not Wii Us. We... We dont have Wii Us here. What? Oh, thats a shame. Are you out of them? No... Wait, um. I was at a total loss at this point. Sir, this is... I dont think this is what you think it is. This is Wegmans. What is Wegmans? I paused a third time, this time a little bit longer. ...Wegmans is a grocery store. Oh. Like with vegetables. Yes, like... Like with vegetables. And fruit. We have a lot of things, actually. And pizza! Yes. Thats just so neat! At that point the line went dead and I had to stand completely still for like a solid minute to fully understand what had just happened.
