Tonight in our living room, Todds hospital bed was surrounded by his evening support team. As I was preparing to change his bandage, I stopped a minute and just looked around. Todds Aunt Dottie stood to my left rubbing his shoulder, his cousin Dawn looked in his eyes and spoke to him softly and her husband Jon was on the fringes ready to assist as needed. Our nephew Jarred tenderly stroked his Uncle Todds hair ready to do anything I needed him to do. Trying to think of ways we could make Todd more comfortable, friend and neighbor Karen, a nurse by career and by heart, and Todds brother Brett were there to assist as I began to change Todds bandage on the wound thats been festering four years now bringing us to where we are today. Karens husband and Todds brother by another mother William, and Todds friend since kindergarten, Keith, had just helped with the repositioning lift and were ready to do anything they could to help, including sleep tonight closer to their friend, and care for him so I could get some real rest in a real bed, which is where they are now...one in the living room on the couch and the other in the loft on the futon. While at this point Todd does not always seem aware of whats happening around him, I can only pray that he felt the love, compassion and support thrust upon him by so many now. I am humbled, amazed and truly blessed to be and have been part of this journey with my husband...and an absolutely phenomenal group, these tonight and many others, who have supported us through this. Thank you and God bless us every one!
