Tonight is a good example why I realize how alone I really am. One of the most horrifying things happen to River. Got home and I went out to feed and came out of the barn and River was struggling to get his foot loose from the bottom wire of the fence. I run to him and he had the wire between the foot and shoe. The wire was wrapped around his foot also. Without thinking I just get down on the ground under him to hold his foot up with the wire. He was trying to rear up. My boy calms down. I call my neighbor crying and she is in Decatur. Now what to do?? At this point all I can do is to keep talking to River. I slowly put his foot down and walked calmly to the barn and got a hammer. Talking loudly to him to stay calm. He did not move. I got wire from warped around his leg and holding his foot with one hand and hammering with my bad hand it came out. It is amazing how strong you can be when you have to. The bond River and I have payed off tonight. If it was not for the trust and love he has in me, he could have ripped his foot off.
