Tonights IPO Chicago show at Red Line Tap is a very meaningful - TopicsExpress

Tonights IPO Chicago show at Red Line Tap is a very meaningful one, as I dedicate it to the memory of the great Jim Ellison, who would have been 50 years old today. It was for the debut album of his band, Material Issue, that I named the festival International Pop Overthrow, and certainly many of the acts playing IPO Chicago (along with several other IPO festivals) were greatly inspired by Jim and the band. In fact, one playing tonight, Phil Angotti, may have been more inspired by Jim than anyone; so much so, that he took Jims vocal and guitar parts in the Material Re-Issue 20th Anniversary performance held at The Abbey in 2011 as part of IPO Chicago. It was certainly one of my most cherished IPO memories. Heres tonights excellent lineup, which features an amazing band from the UK, and one who, while from right here in Chicago, may as well be from 1960s France as that is what their music is all about: 8:00 Ben Jones and The Rifle Volunteer (from the UK!) 8:45 The Choir 9:30 Phil Angotti 10:15 The Abbeys 11:00 The Ye-Ye’s 11:45 92 Degrees Red Line Tap is located at 7006 N. Glenwood Ave, and can be reached by phone at 773-274-5463. They are a 21+ venue, and cover for tonights show is $10. Come on down to IPO Chicago tonight, and share in the memory of Jim Ellison, and the wonderful music that Jim Ellisons legacy has given us.
