Too many people mistake Culture for Tradition. Not very many people out there can say they are Traditional......when they carry out a Culture that they are accustomed to....whether it be Basketball.....Powwow.....Rodeo.....Painting or Sculpting. To many people, Culture could be very different.....whether your swinging a rope, shooting the three or burning up the grass Fancy dancing, your culture is who you are, but dont mistake your culture for tradition. You can shape and change yourself to fit your culture and make it what you want it to be - you cant change Traditions or Traditional Ways. Look back at your childhood and your life. Tell me how much your culture has changed your lifestyle.....tell me how much different it will be without that part of your culture. To me, my culture is what I learned to love over the years.....in all honesty Basketball and the Military shaped my lifestyle and added to my Culture....both good and bad.....nothing makes me feel more alive that running a fast break with Dane, Wylee, Rusty, Swift Bird, Michael, Wesley, trading shots with Cooper, Jess Bends, Derick Denny, grabbing boards with Justin, Michael Chavez, Lorenzo Bell, Quinn Austin, Tyson, Ben Sellshisvisionsart Pease, making hustle plays and getting dirty on defense with Rumeal and Brandon Yellowbird-Stevens, blocking Altons and Chase Demerys shots and making nice tackles with Cody Samuelson and headbutting other players with Carlin Hughes even if they are on the basketball court, going up against Butch Sinette, Daelan Highwolf, Todd Raining Bird, Dennis Sangrey, Sauce Sangrey and all the other ballers out there is what makes it work. Whether or not you believe what Im saying.....doesnt matter. In any case, any angle you want to argue is probably fair game. In my eyes, Keep It Real. Stop faking who you are and be true to your Identity as a person. If you cant identify with a culture.....stop wondering around acting lost and making something out of nothing, hold on to your traditions and not balloon air. Be proud of who you are and where you came from.....Dont forget that.
