Took a Sunday drive to see a place that gets overlooked by Route 66 travelers when they pass through Joplin, MO.. The first is the tribute marker to the Will Rogers Memorial Highway that is located inside Shifferdecker Park facing Route 66 as it leaves West Joplin. This beautiful historic park also featured a tourist camp for travelers long before the Route was commissioned...and for some years later during the Great Depression. Today this park features a beautiful professional golf course, a new swimming pool and water park, multiple playgrounds and picnic areas and the popular Joplin Museum that includes displays of the mining era, what Bonnie and Clyde left behind after a shoot-out, a tribute to Mickey Mantle and more. Worth a stop anytime of the year! :-)
