Took my 8th grade boys on a trip initiative in closing the achievement gap today that was AMAZING! Although Out of all the celebrities and guest speakers that were there I was moved by the smallest gesture. I was one to laugh at the idea of calling kids Kings and Queens, but after corralling a bus load of boys off a bus and then to be taken by the hand and have a strong black man say "good morning my queen," really had me thinking. This non profit organization had a group of men greeting all of my boys individually calling each and everyone of them Kings. Some of them were shocked but many embraced it and an attitude of "i am deserving; I can be whatever I want" was moving. If only our kids knew that they too have a history of being Kings and can rule the world if they put their minds to. Definitely for the movement of re-crowning our children.....
