Top tip: Get your clippers out a good fortnight before you intend to use them. Attach the blades and let them run for a few minutes to make sure there that they are OK. Too many times the clippers will have been left in some damp cupboard in a barn and when they are next turns on, the capacitor blows. Have a look at your blades and see if they look reasonably fresh. Its best to have two sets of blades sharp before you start to clip. Horses tend to look a little odd with only a few strips of clipped fur!!
