Torres was absent as the first-team squad took to the field at their Cobham training base to finalise preparations for Wednesdays meeting with the German side at Stamford Bridge. Reports on Tuesday morning suggested the Spain striker had made a premature exit from training on Monday. Chelsea host Schalke, who they beat 3-0 in Gelsenkirchen last month with two goals from Torres, bidding to enhance their position at the top of the standings. The Blues responded from an opening home loss to Basle by winning at Steaua Bucharest and in Germany.
